The Arts Council of Dickinson County was formed in 1981 by a group of individuals who realized the need for an organization dedicated to encouraging the arts in Dickinson County. The group formed to promote visual, performing and literary arts. For many years, the Arts Council was a volunteer organization. Early programs included Picture Person in the County grade schools, an Annual Photography Competition and Exhibit, the Trail Days Festival, an annual Artist in Residence in the local schools, educational classes for adults and youth, scheduled visual arts exhibits and musical performances. As the organization continued to grow, an office was established and a director hired. Currently, the Arts Council of Dickinson County is thriving and art offerings continue to expand.
As part of our mission fulfillment, we encourage and showcase local artists, musicians and writers as well as scheduling professional artists. The Arts Council also collaborates with other organizations throughout the county to create art opportunities in the community. Special events routinely held as fundraisers include the Renaissance Festival, Pirate Festival, 50's Fest and Swinging on a Star. The Arts Council is funded entirely through the generosity of individuals, businesses and organizations throughout Dickinson County who provide support through monetary gifts, donating resources and volunteering.
